THE BEST THING ABOUT MY NEW BEDROOM

Here we are with the third appointment about my new house! (See the previous interior posts here, in case you missed them!).

After a couple of weeks of deciding how to decorate my new bedroom I believe it is finally time to share some pictures with you. I am always spending considerable time deciding every detail, so the house decoration is not going very fast. But I really enjoy taking our time in doing this, considering we have a whole life to spend in here!! 😉

Our first floor is mainly white.. white wooden floors, doors and white walls. My main goal is to keep the bedroom simple but at the same time stylish and first of all, choosing a good quality, comfort mattress was my main concern.

That’s why I chose Eve Sleep!

Not only for the mattress, but also the bed frame and linen sheets are from Eve Sleep. When I found out I could sort out the whole bed situation just from one brand I was so nicely impressed!

Check out the pictures, as I cannot wait to see what you guys think of it!!   bed frame - bedroom - eve sleep - linen sheets - mattress   bed frame - bedroom - eve sleep - linen sheets - mattress   bed frame - bedroom - eve sleep - linen sheets - mattress   bed frame - bedroom - eve sleep - linen sheets - mattress

The first thing that always popped up my mind when thinking about my bedroom was definitely the type and quality of the mattress. It is probably the most fundamental and basic item for your new place. I tried so many different mattresses in my life but the one from Eve Sleep won. It is soft enough and super comfortable with such firmness level that makes it just right.

The grey bed frame is simple but gives a chic touch to the bedroom. It was super easy to put it together but at the same time the quality is still high. You wouldn’t believe how short time it took me to do it all without any struggle. And it looks amazing!!

I think you have to treat bedding as another design piece in your bedroom. I picked white and grey colors that matched perfectly with the whole room. The Eve Sleep bedding I picked is made of linen and gives you a soft feeling, which makes me want to go sleep early every night (haha).

As a final touch I filled up the bedroom with green plants making the room cozy and warm. I think plants always put a bit of life in any room of your house. To create extra cosines I added few candles and decorations here and there. They always add more atmosphere to the room especially during the winter season. I am still on the hunt for antique bedside tables and prints to hang to the wall.. so stay tuned for some decorations update very soon!!

MY LIVING ROOM: A COMPLETE TOUR

We are finally (almost) done with our living room and loving it! The style of the room is what I call ‘scandinavian vibe with a vintage touch’ and I am very curious to hear how you like it.

The sofa, cushions, glass lamp and side table are from Fest Amsterdam. I received them already a few weeks ago but I wanted to wait to show you until the whole room was styled up. Especially the sofa, is exactly what we wanted.. a modern design with a beautiful finish and comfortable seating. Its main feature is the large seat and stitching along each side. It’s stylish and of a great quality at the same time. Something durable towards the years. The cushions are the cherry on top to stick to our colour palette and style. So many of you already asked me about them on Instagram stories, so here you can find again the direct link to them!

The glass lamp and side table are quite statement pieces in the living room. I love how simple they are, with a touch of colour. The lamp is pink glass with a solid white marble foot. It really brights up the living room with a special glow. The side table was created in collaboration with the Dutch designer Floris Hovers. It can be used both as a stool and side table. The natural wood is combined with playful colours, which makes it a timeless addition to our living room.

Finally, the blue persian faded rug makes a beautiful contrast with all the plants and flowers, which I am slowly filling all the living room in. I just love having a lot of greens, I think it makes the house very warm.

We are still looking for two vintage leather chairs, caramel colour to place in front of the sofa and then we will be done. What do you think?

Stay tuned on my Instagram later this week because a great surprise is coming for you! You can win one of these decor pieces for your own home from Fest Amsterdam!

HOW 3 COLOURED WALLS ELEVATED MY NEW INTERIOR

Today’s post marks the beginning of a whole lot of interior content coming to the blog with my new home! The first thing I am going to show you is the colour palette we picked for our house coloured walls by Farrow & Ball! I am very excited to share with you all the steps of the decoration and hopefully keep you inspired on interior pieces and choices, beside my regular fashion posts 🙂

As you probably saw over the past week on my Instagram stories, we finally moved into the new house! (Big Yayyy!!) It’s not nearly close to be finished, but it’s good enough to be able to live in it. I don’t mind to take our time to finish with the decorations. I really want to wait until we find the pieces we love, instead of rushing and hopping from one furniture shop to another and ending up not being completely satisfied!

I’ve spent the past five month (since we bought the house) ‘pinteresting’ tons of interior images with the aim of making up my mind of what I really wanted. After the big refurbishment project was done and it came finally the time to start deciding on the interior, the first big decision was about the coloured walls we wanted in the house. I do like white (in fact the first floor it’s a whole lot of white, including the staircases and the wooden floors) but for the living areas (dining room, living room and guests/studio floor) and Emma’s bedroom I decided I wanted some coloured walls to add some character.

Luckly, Menno and I, both like a scandinavian vibe when it comes to interior so the decision on the coloured walls wasn’t too hard. We decided we wanted different shades of grey which ended up to look a divine contrast with the oak floor and a feminine colour for Emma’s bedroom, but not too girly. The coloured walls had to be a stement part of those rooms so I immediately thought of Farrow & Ball after hearing so many good things about the brand and falling in love with their paint colours. The light grey we picked is an understated stone grey, called Purbeck Stone, while for the contrast dark wall we picked a soft black with blue undertones, called Railings. The colour of Emma’s bedroom is a wildly romantic rose pink, called Cinder Rose.

Honestly, this was a first for me and I had no idea we had to decide so many details beside the colours of the walls! What kind of paint was the best to be used, what finish or primer we needed, how many square meters we wanted to paint. There was no way I could sort out all of these information by myself and get the right paint if it wasn’t for the ‘Advice’ page on Farrow & Ball website and “How to Decorate” very inspiring book (by Studholme & Charlotte Cosby). Their website helped us calculating the paint quantities and the finishes we needed. They also offer a In-Home colour consultancy where you can meet Farrow & Ball experts. How cool is that!

I hope you like the result as much as we do!!

MY NEW ART GALLERY WALL AND A DISCOUNT CODE TO MAKE YOUR OWN!

I had in mind to create an art gallery wall for quite some time now. Finally I got my hands on it and I couldn’t be happier with the result!

I did some research and fell in love with the vast range of choices at Desenio. I love the fact I could also shop the different frames on their website. What was stopping me before it was the idea of having to browse and shop on so many different websites.. The idea appeared chaotic and not so appealing. On Desenio I could space from fashion posters to botanic, from world and city maps to quotes posters. Exactly the ‘cocktail’ I wanted for my art gallery wall. On top of it, I chose different colours frames in black, white and gold to spice it up a bit!

I found out creating an art gallery wall is the perfect way to make a personal statement at home, expressing who I am and what I like. Like the prada poster and cactus photo mixed with the black and white world map and quote print. I could simply space out between all the things I am passionate about. I want to see them every day and know I will not be bored of them! Finally I loved combining the different sizing, I feel it makes it more interesting and less perfectionist!

Today Desenio gave me the opportunity to help you build your own art gallery wall! You can shop on Desenio with a 25% off!! Use this code at check-out: nickyinsideout (valid 2nd-4th May only on posters). Now you can use your creativity and I can’t wait to hear what’s your favourite posters and see what you will create!!

MY 10 TIPS FOR THE MOST COMFORTABLE HOME

Since Emma was born, like in every family, we started to spend more time at home. We felt more and more the need of having a comfortable home that is inviting and make it an enjoyable and memorable place.

I thought of sharing with you today my 10 tips that made my house a comfortable home and made me enjoy it more!

First of all, we are clients of Essent, an energy supplier which helped us creating a warm and comfortable space. Our daily life improved a lot, because everything at home is properly arranged now.

nickyinsideout - comfortable home - cozy home - essent - interior blogger - interior styling   Regardless of the season, every home can benefit from adding a little cozy comfort. Check out my 10 tips and tricks for making your home feel better:
  1. Inviting tones first! Don’t underestimate the inviting power of your favourite colours for a comfortable home feeling. Winter is a long season in The Netherlands, so light tones at home matter. The right colours are a quick trick for adding instant inviting vibes!
  2. Essent supplies excellent gadgets for our home. This helped us a lot was in the daily routine, such as regulating the heating in each different room, not having to remember to turn it down at night or when we leave the house because it’s already programmed. Moreover, Essent cares about saving energy and this way we help the environment and their website is full of tips where I found all the answers to my questions.
  3. Pay attention to details. I tried to consider a guest’s first view of my space and paid special attention to styling that point of view. This created that feeling that people want to stay a while and explore my space and we are having the same good feeling when spending time at home!
  4. For the parents, toys out of the way! Try to corral the toys out of the way and have a dedicated space to them. Since I’ve done this I don’t have that feeling of always having a mess in the house.
  5. Go overboard with leafy, green fluffy plants. Lots of plants just bring life into a space, and make it feel like the kind of welcoming and comfortable home you want to spend an afternoon drinking coffee and reading a magazine.
nickyinsideout - comfortable home - cozy home - essent - interior blogger - interior styling   nickyinsideout - comfortable home - cozy home - essent - interior blogger - interior styling   nickyinsideout - comfortable home - cozy home - essent - interior blogger - interior styling   6. Layer rugs. Add rugs and layer them is giving me a very comfortable home feeling. I piled them on top of each other for extra coziness and be comfortable also sitting on the floor. 7. Include a throw or some fuzz. Accessories are a great way to adjust to seasonal design without fully committing. I love the idea of adding cozy cashmere blankets over my couch where we can snuggle with little Emma and take weekend naps together. Also, nothing says cozy quite like faux fur. The fuzzy material will make your home nice and toasty. 8. Designer furniture pieces. This helps me keeping my place stylish and feels like the places I would normally like to hang out. They are timeless and above what is fashionable at the moment. One designer piece is enough, without breaking the bank, like my ghost chair by Kartell. Plus, adding a seat to your living room gives it a lounge-like appeal that will tempt you to curl up with a magazine.   nickyinsideout - comfortable home - cozy home - essent - interior blogger - interior styling   nickyinsideout - comfortable home - cozy home - essent - interior blogger - interior styling   9. Candles and string lights. Grab some fragrant candles for some good scent floating in the air and string lights for a cozy lighting, different from the regular lamps. It doesn’t have to be Christmas to incorporate string lights into a space. 10. Try a dark piece of furniture. Intensify the cozy factor by adding a dark piece of furniture, like we did with the dark grey couch, to make the space feel inviting. Just be sure to add pops of white to keep it from feeling too heavy.   nickyinsideout - comfortable home - cozy home - essent - interior blogger - interior styling   nickyinsideout - comfortable home - cozy home - essent - interior blogger - interior styling   nickyinsideout - comfortable home - cozy home - essent - interior blogger - interior styling
